Biblical Hebrew on the web
There are other sites with information and help for beginning the study of biblical Hebrew. Some of the best include the following:
- The course site for Elementary Biblical Hebrew at the University of Washington has some excellent resources. In particular, see the "animated" reading of Genesis 1:1-5 on the Alef-Bet page.
- Further animated tutorials can be found at the University of Texas/Austin Biblical Hebrew Language site, as well as a selection of tutorials.
- Yet more valuable learner resources at the excellent Animated Hebrew site.
- "Let's Study Hebrew" from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary complete with PDFs and links to videos on Vimeo.
- Jeff Benner's "Ancient Hebrew Research Center" has some useful introductions to aspects of biblical Hebrew.
- Some students have found the Hebrew for Christians tutorials to provide a good starting point for learning biblical Hebrew.
Hebrew Bible Online
- Mechon-Mamre offer a variety of Hebrew Bibles in different formats. (The link will take you directly to the index for the parallel Hebrew/English version.)
- The TanakhML Project provides a unique interface to the Hebrew Bible text. Note that its page display is very wide, and you may need to scroll to the right to see all the menu listings.
- The Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft provides a unicode version of BHS, useful for cutting-and-pasting (always verify your citations!).
Other Resources
- More about the Hebrew alphabet from the Omniglot site.
- Helmut Richter's explanation of Hebrew Vowels and Consonants provides some helpful information.
- John Hobbins' blog (!) opens many fascinating vistas onto the study of biblical Hebrew. Poke around!
- Ehud ben Zvi of the University of Alberta has assembled a wide range of links relevant to the study of the Hebrew Bible, also worth exploring.
